The Anatomy of Sciatica

The sciatic nerve originates in the lower spine and runs through the pelvis and buttocks before dividing into branches that supply sensation and movement to the legs and feet. When a herniated disc, bone spur, or muscle tightness compresses the nerve, it can lead to sciatica.
