The Anatomy of Neck Pain

The cervical spine, or neck, is made up of seven vertebrae that protect the spinal cord. Nerves branch off the spinal cord and exit between the vertebrae. When a nerve root becomes compressed, it can cause pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness in the neck, shoulders, arms, and hands.

Common Symptoms of Cervical Radiculopathy

  • Arm pain: Pain, numbness, or tingling that travels down the arm into the hand.
  • Weakness: Weakness in the arm or hand muscles.
